The steering in my 98.5 A4 1.8T has started moaning and creaking. This happens either way I turn the wheel. I can feel a little bit of resistance in the steering when this happens. I checked the steering fluid level, it looks OK. Should I be running (instead of walking) to the Audi dealership to have this checked out?

This is a common problem w/ the A4s, apparently Audi has not fixed it. The bushing is an integral part of the lower control arm, you'll have to have it replaced. Many others (myself included) have had this done. It is a squeaking, groaning noise when turning. Check the archives there is a lot more info out there on this.

As long as the fluid level is ok I would just walk to the dealership.

My steering rack was replaced at around 8000 miles. One of the internal seals went and the
fluid went into one of the boots on the end so it wasn't leaking all over the place. It made that
same groaning creaking sound as well. Do a search on 'steering rack' , you'll find that this does
happen occasionally.
