Hi,

I took a peek at the engine of my 98.5 1.8tqm today, and noticed some engine oil residue on the passenger side of the engine block. Its collected along this metal "railing" (heat shield?) that runs front to back just above the exhaust manifold. Am I leaking somewhere? Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Second thing - the horizontal lines on my trip comp are fading, especially under the heat. Anyone have this problem or have the gauge cluster replaced because of this?

Thanks for any information!

Steve

I had my whole instrument cluster replaced in the spring because the lines and the text was fading on my trip computer. It appears that this was not an isolated problem. In my most there were at least 5 people who also commented about the same problem.

Don't let your dealership screw you around make sure they replace the whole cluster.

Your odometer reading will be reset to the same mileage you brought it in as. Make sure that they do it properly with fully document it.

Good luck

Be sure that you take the car in when the problem exists (mine only happens when the car interior gets hot). That way they can't jerk you around.

There is a common and harmless leak in the cover gasket. Easy fix by Audi under warranty, or no-brainer for you to fix. The Archives have some additional comments.
