I've got a vibration (buzzing) sound coming from the left side by the windshield at idle in gear. If I press on the area or put it in neutral the sound goes away. I'm sure it's something slightly loose and wondered has anyone else experienced this?

No sounds, solid as a rock. Probably something minor.

I've got a couple of nits to pick. First, my engines tends to be on the rough/loud side at idle. Second, I get a brief shudder/hitch just before coming to a complete stop. Third, the tip will automatically shift from 1st to 2nd at 2000 rpm. Fourth, when making a turn the steering wheel will produce a click when the turn signal is on.
These are, as I say, nits to what has otherwise been a really good initial quality experience. For all I know, several of these nits are normal.

I do notice all those, except the turn signal click. I have a message further down, and in edmunds, about the tip problem. Seems that some people can use the whole rev range without the tip-tronic acting like an automatic.
I do experience the shudder/hitch when braking, but have NO idea what that is. Though I was imagining it.

Picked up my 99.5 A6 Saturday, after an extensive test drive during which it was as quiet as could be. Then, as soon as I signed the papers and drove it off the lot as owner, it started making a loud squeeking sound from somewhere on the driver's side. I had to wait until the dealer opened again on Monday to look at it, and it took all morning to localize the sound as coming from under the front dash, after first swapping out the door panel. This is my first non-Japanese car, my first "luxury class" car, and I sure didn't expect such a problem to occur. Of course, the salesman, the owner of the dealership, and the entire service department were all over the car and apologizing profusely for my inconvenience. I just hope it isn't indicative of future problems with "fit and finish."

I had a slight rattle in the dash that the dealer promptly repaired. The hitch you guys are talking about is the transmission shifting down from 2nd to 1st as the car rolls to a stop. I have had no problems with my tiptronic and it will hold every gear to redline. My chief complaint about the car is ground clearance beneath the front airdam.

Fixed the problem. Pulled the Dash side covers off (fuse cover and cover on right side and retightened all the screws. The noise is gone.

Is that holding to redline at full throttle. Try using part throttle and see if it magically shift to 2nd. What year, manufacture date.

In the manual on page 69.
It says that the car will downshift when on a downhill gradient. And will own downshift as far as 2nd gear..

In tip mode (as previously posted), the tranny will shift from first to second at 2000 rpm. However, I did the "floor it" experiment and the tip did hold first until redline under those conditions.
Still seems sort of silly to have a tip that won't hold first past 2000 rpm unless you floor it. I wonder if this was a bug that crept in when they "reprogrammed" the tranny in the middle of the model year.

I've posted many messages about the tiptronic problem. It seems that some people can hold it in 1st, and some have it shift for them.
I called Audi Client Relations at (800) 822-2834
option 3. He said his experience was that it did
shift from 1st to 2nd before the redline was
reached. He said that I should take the car to the dealer and have them take a test drive. He didn't want to commit to saying it was not working
correctly(on the phone), that an authorized dealer
should make that determination. (sounds like a
run-around)
I just wrote Wetteraur to see if their after market chip will fix this problem, I was told that Wetterauer chips do not effect the transmission at all

Yes, it will hold first all the way to redline, no matter what the throttle opening.
