Have a grinding sound on right side of car as brakes are applied. Doesn't happen every time. Doesn't seem to effect ability to stop. More noticable going down hill. Local dealer has looked at car and beveled the brake pads to Audi specs --- plenty of pad left. Still have the problem. Anyone else with this kind of problem?

Also, any experience with a different type of brake pad that does not leave as much dust? If the pad is a non-Audi part, how do you work with the dealer on installation, or do the dealers take the approach that it voids the warranty?

Thanks,

I did on my A4, but it was because there were cracks in the base of the pad next to the backing, ie the pad was starting to seperate from the backing. I guess the pads were still too green. I had a few hundred miles on them before I took them to the track. The material itself has excellent properties, and I've never seen my rotors so smooth. They squeal if they're just brushing up against the disk though, which is how I found the problem. They were just barely touching while turning. Oh, they were Mintex C-Tech's, aka Mintex 1144. Now the front ones are toasted. Backs holding up well.

Yours sounds like a slight rotor warp problem if they inspected the pads, and even chamfered them.
