I have a 99.5 A4 with the Bose stereo (v.3, if that matters)... I noticed that when I disconnected and reconnected the battery, the bose stereo never asked me for the security pin code... anyone else experience this??

View Full Version : Do you need to activate the security feature of the Bose stereo? WO 08-06-1999, 10:03 AM I have a 99.5 A4 with the Bose stereo (v.3, if that matters)... I noticed that when I disconnected and reconnected the battery, the bose stereo never asked me for the security pin code... anyone else experience this?? Andy Hedin 08-06-1999, 10:16 AM ....I pulled the headunit out to fix a squeak and I had it totally disconnected. To my surprise, when I reconnected it it didn't go into "SAFE" mode. Couldn't find anything in the FAQ about it. Does anyone know off-hand if the owner's manual (or separate stereo manual) describes how to activate the security feture? I know, FTFM... Andy Hedin phred 08-06-1999, 10:39 AM maybe it retains power for a while to cover situations like this. If so, watch out for hot capacitors inside. Ed 08-06-1999, 10:40 AM I happen to have the Manual for my 99.5 with me today. The general manual doesn't have the info for this, but the stereo manual does.... Anti-theft coding: "The electronic lock-up is operational if: - the radio is disconnected from the vehicle current supply. - the battery is disconnected - the electric fuse for the radio is blown the word "SAFE" will appear in the display when the radio is switched on. The unit will only work again if the correct code has been entered." Then it goes on to say how to enter the correct code, and if you don't do it properly twice, you have to wait an hour. Sounds like your radios are not working properly or the manual left out an activation portion. There was a process in Bentley to enable it and that fixed it. Check to see if yours is coded. I can't remember off the bat but I think you hold down FM1/2 and 1. Of course that's on a Delta radio. I have no idea what the Bose setup looks like. It should be in the manual though.
