Back is WAY different, especially if you are comparing a car with Quattro.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. BTW, the A6 is very different in the rear as well.
I have both brochures from Audi and VW. The basic suspension setup is the same for the A4q and the Passat V-6 Syncro. The A4 fwd and Passat fwd have the same front and rear suspensions. I have both, 96 A4q and 99 Passat GLS wagon fwd. (Quattro vs FWD - not a completely fair compairision.) The spring and shock rates are much softer on the Passat. It is a fun car to drive but not as much as the A4. With after-market springs and shocks the Passat could come close.
Also, the Passat FWD should still weigh a little more than a similarly equipped A4 since it's at least 6" longer overall, with 4" longer wheelbase; this longer wheelbase of course translates into a more stable ride but handling in tight situations will suffer.
Just my $0.02
HermanH
98.5 Passat 1.8tm
