Does anyone have any recommendations for a "kit" of items to store in the car for cleaning and or small repairs? I know some have mentioned a Meguires product that is used for instant detailing, any other you detail fantatics recommend? Thanks.

Any of the quick detailers will do just fine. Here is my experience w/ detailers so far. I found Mothers to be a little too streaky. Pinacle Crystal Mist is supposed to be very good and I ordered some this week from autopia-carecare.com (an A4.org sponser). If your interested I'll let you know how I like it next week.

I am currently using Griot Garages Speed Shine quick detailer. Griots Garage sells Speed Shine in a small size 8 ounce spray container. As it is small it fits nicely in the A4 trunks' tiny storage box. I keep a couple of cloths around it and use it when bird poop, dirt, mud, etc. needs to be removed and I can't wash the car. Speed Shine works very nicely. Very lubricated and not too streaky.

Griots is online www.griotsgarage.com. The small sprayer 8 oz. bottle I got is part #11144 and cost around $5.

You can find a small 8-oz spray bottle at your local drugstore for around a buck or so. It's much more economical to buy that stuff by the gallon. Besides you need plenty of it when you clay your car. Even if you don't clay your car, going over the car with the Fast Shine and a towel makes the waxing process much easier.

I took a quick look in my trunk and this is what I've found:

CLEANING SUPPLIES
- 8-oz spray bottle of Fast Shine
- a couple of terrycloth towels
- spray bottle of window cleaner
- roll of paper towels
- shop rag
- mini version of a "california car duster"

TOOLS
- flat piece of wood to use as base for the jack in case I'm stuck in some soft dirt or gravel
- Jumper cables
- quart of oil
- jumper cables
- tire pressure gauge

SAFETY
- small class B-C Fire extinguisher
- flashlight (working)
- First Aid kit from Costco that has a bunch of stuff in it
- A couple of Powerbars and some hard candy for emergency food
- A bottle of water
- a 10-minute long-distance telephone card
- Hmm, come to think of it, I should toss a compass and a whistle in there too...

OTHER STUFF
- deck of cards (actually in my glove box) in case I get stuck in a traffic jam for 5 hours somewhere. Poker anyone?
- Blanket I bought from Costco for about US$6 that is waterproof nylon on one side, and flannel on the other. This is by far the best purchase I've ever made, I've used this for everything from protecting my trunk from dirty stuff like my mountain bike, to a picnic blanket. It seats four easily.
- All of this is sitting on a rubber mat, about $12 from Costco, that covers nearly the entire trunk, and has a no-slide surface and raised lips to catch any spilled stuff. Much cheaper than those Weathertech mats, and just a functional, even though they don't fit exactly precisely.

Methinks I need to get a carrying bag for all that stuff, instead of letting it fly around back there. Actually, Home Depot has a set of two nice toolbags, one large and one small for about US$30 that would do nicely.

I used to be good about carrying an emergency kit in my car, but there's something about cluttering up the trunk of a new car that bothers me. Besides, I figured the Audi Advantage would take care of me. Now that I've hit 60K miles, I guess I should think about restocking my trunk. Thanks for the ideas.

or maybe I do have two sets, one for small cars, one for large?
