I was searching the archives for info on lack of brakes in the rain and I saw mention that audi had addressed the problem in the 98.5 model year. Every have only test driven the car in the dry and I am curious if the braking situation has been improved. I drive in alot of traffic and a few seconds of no braking in the rain equals and accident. The answer to this would be dont drive so close but there is no other choice. If you back up to leave some space somebody will just slip in and fill the gap. Oh well, im rambling on here. I was going to go order the car tonight but I guess a test drive in the rain is called for and its too cold here for rain :( Somebody please tell me the problem has been fixed.

First of all, the best day to take a test drive is the worst rain of the season, or the big blizzard of the year. Don't even bother going for a test drive on a day with near-perfect weather, nearly any car will feel good under those conditions. Also, the A4 has tons of brake upgrades available. From Brembo standard, to KVR, to Brembo Big Brake, the Brembo Big Red, to Alcon, to S4/A8 rotors, to... the list goes on. If you want to do a brake upgrade, the ///M3 and the A4 are the only cars in this size class that allow for serious upgrades. I'd look at the car and see if you think the brakes are good enough. If they aren't, consider an upgrade.
Cameron
the more I use prior to the wet weather, the better the brakes work. Since I switched to snow tires, and use my brakes more/engine brake less, I get better braking power in wet and dry.
-josh
