Today my remote died. It would not work at all. So I locked the car manually. The car locked but the alarm did not set as it usually does. So I called my Audi dealer and they said to replace the batterys in the remote. I do. I then go to the car and try the remote, again nothing works. I then start and drive the car for 10 minutes and shut if off. The remote now works. What Happened? Thanks for any input.
Avant 98.5 30v QMS

The irony is that you probably didn't need to replace the battery. My 98.5 goes on the fritz now and then, although almost without exception the alarm system beeps when I secure the door manually. It generally fixes itself later the same day, and doesn't act up again for weeks.

Mine used to do the same thing (quit working and start working again later the same day). Then I dropped it and it completely quit working. The dealer replaced the remote and it hasn't stopped working since.
Someone on this board once theorized that interference caused the system to reduce its sensitivity. Sounded plausible, but since mine always works now, I think you probably have a flaky remote.
Kyle
