my AC fan is really loud in my 96 a4, is this normal. It's just louder than other cars... just curious.

Mine is too. I also drive a 96 A4. 2.8, FWD, auto. Anyways, I also note that there is a weird sound in there too--kind of like as if a piece of paper is stuck in there. Anyways, the guys at the shop said $2000 to rip off the dash and check, so I said screw that. I'll let you know about the loudness thing though--my car is currently in the shop.

my car also has that paper noise, i used to think it was a dried leaf in it, but i don't think that anymore. If i turn off the air and then back on the noise stops, but i got tired of diong that, and just put up with that noise for a little while. Is it on 96's or others?

Yeah, the A4 is loud...but I think my GTI (2) and Jetta (1) were louder.

I asked my dealer to look into the jet noise and they claim there are two fans. When the ambient temperature gets hot (I don't know if there is a specific temp), the second "high speed" fan comes on which is what you hear.
