Well, I picked up my 99.5 2.8 qmss Avant tonight and it was well worth the wait. I wanted to post a brief rave just because I so pumped up. The delivery went fine and the car had the cargo net, got a keychain and a promise of more stuff, we'll see.
1. The sport pack is amazing, it really transforms the car. The car feels so much tighter than my 98.0 2.8 qtip, really buttoned down and it just corners a lot flatter.
2. The leather sport seats are awesome, very supportive and they have plenty of room for my 5'6" frame, my legs get supported in all the right places, the console does not intrude as much as I had expected.
3. The Ecru/Cabernet interior looks great, can't believe the change from my old Onyx, the contrast between the seats, doors, and dash is very classy. I like the open-pore wood, it looks more like wood than the polished burl.
4. The rear seats are upholstered like the front sport seats, they have narrower horizontal sections like the sport seats, very nice.
5. The lighting changes for 99.5 are great, I like the headlights, the horizontal cutoff is very sharp, but acceptable. The additional interior lighting is helpful, I particularly like the overhead lights and the dash vent control lights. No one mentioned the lights in the door edges, a nice touch, there seem to be lights in the footwells now (can't recall if the 98s had them).
6. Having a manual again is heaven (at least until my first traffic jam). I haven't forgot how to double-clutch and the 2.8 is much more responsive w/ a manual. In 5th gear on the freeway, a press of the go pedal takes you from 60-65 to 75-80 right away. The tip always felt like there was no one in the engine room in 5th unless you forced a kick-down to 3rd.
7. The Avant body style is awesome, I am really in love with this. I like all that glass, the hatch opening, the extra headroom, and that long roof. I think the longer roof gives the car an aerodynamic edge over all you sedan owners!
