View Full Version : possible blown turbo dealership says 6200 to fix...any options???
TheDonn 04-03-2006, 01:58 PM i have a 2001.5 S4 with 37000 miles the car started sounding like air was being pushed out of the engine somewhere. the diverter valve was broken at the nipple where the braided hose connects. i replaced that and nothing changed. the dealership said that it is blown and that i should replace both of them the total being 6200. the dealership also said that there was a bolt that was missing on the silver pipe going down the side of the engine. i just have a hard time beleaving that it is blown.
anyone have any ideas on what to do? good places to find parts and what to do for potential upgrades.

S4gasm (LoTR) 04-03-2006, 02:10 PM take it to a local shop...f the dealer...that quote is outrageous!
TheDonn 04-03-2006, 02:15 PM i live in Milwaukee, WI.
lemieux@curbside 04-03-2006, 02:15 PM and go from there .. like the lord said do not take it to the dealer unless u know someone there and u get taken care of or it's warranty work .
S4lorn 04-03-2006, 02:20 PM test the thing. I would get it back from the dealer and test it myself (AWE has a good write up on building a tester). If you can't test it ourself find a local tuner or possibly even fellow AW'er to help you out.
For the most part- AVOID THE DEALER.
$6200 is crazy expensive. You could Get K)$/RS6's for about $3500 or so with hoses or K04's for around $2.5K with hoses and figure another $1.5-2.5K for install.<ul><li><a href="http://awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=4&PEI=6&PP=s4_27t_driv etrain.cfm&PPT=Drivetrain&IL=pressure%20tester">http://awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=4&PEI=6&a
JasonS4+Festicle 04-03-2006, 02:43 PM International Autos (they are crooks - I assume it's there?) - - I think you have a big boost leak.
You need a pressure test and a visual inspection.
Is the car drivable if you stay out of boost?
I'd be happy to look at it for you.
iconoclast 04-03-2006, 02:43 PM solve the problem yourself... its either a torn tbb, or leak somewhere... if your turbos arent whistling like dentist drills you prolly dont have blown turbos. if you have to ask what it sounds like, you dont have them. (however there is a link in the archs with a video and sound)<ul><li><a href="http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=4&PEI=6&PP=s4_27t_driv etrain.cfm&PPT=Drivetrain&IL=pressure%20tester">http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=4&
TheDonn 04-03-2006, 02:50 PM it is drivable if i take it easy. i am goign back there to chek it out right now intl is the dealership and they are a scam. wouldnt they pressure test it. and how loud would the whisting be i do have a whistling sound going on. sounds a little like an old muscle car with gear drive.
JasonS4+Festicle 04-03-2006, 02:55 PM They replaced my KO3s a long, long time ago and did a terrible job - - - run - run - run - you've been warned.
Let me know if you need any help - if it is a turbo, I can direct you where to go for great reliable service, either locally or in Detroit (VAST) - easy drive there.
TheDonn 04-03-2006, 03:03 PM ill get it out tonight where should i take it? i was thinking alpine they did my APR chip. my email is dhanraha@teksystems.com could you send me some ideas please.
thanks in advance for the advice. i would liek to chat so that i could learn more. it is much needed and appreciated

leadFOOTE 04-03-2006, 03:48 PM when the boost increases it often dumps the boost

TheDonn 04-04-2006, 06:47 AM the turbo is loud as all hell which is why i brought it in. i have taken the car to a place that did my chip and trans reprogramming so that they can take a look at it.
TheDonn 04-04-2006, 06:49 AM the rpms go up but the car goes nowhere and the turbo is making tons of noise.
iconoclast 04-04-2006, 10:35 AM
TheDonn 04-04-2006, 10:48 AM if im on the phone people can hear it on the other end. people watch me drive by when the boost kicks in.
iconoclast 04-04-2006, 10:49 AM idk, pressure test it, inspect all areas, then decide. but if youre going to swap turbos at least go k04/stageIII
