I attempted to seach archives but can not establish a server connection.....
1998.5 A4 2.8 Q Trip - (every option except leather and Bose)
After an extended drive (. 30 minutes) I notice the in-dash trip computer display slowly, progressively, fading out at the sides. This can be seen in that the horizontal seperator lines fade as they approach the edges. When the car is first started, and for the first 20 minutes of driving, the display looks normal.
I am planning on asking the dealer to replace the display @ my 30K service. Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks all,
Happy driving.

Mine does that do, currently at 11K. I am debating whether to ask to replace it since I am afraid they will break something else, so will wait until it gets worse.

Jeff, I've got the exact same problem on a 98.5 2.8 with 5500 Mi. It started showing up in September at about 3000 Mi. I am bringing into the dealer on Wed. 1/13 I brought it in once and they hooked up the computer and immediately came out with a "we need to order this part" statement. We'll see if they know what they are talking about.

I had the same problem. I noticed at first on the horzontal bars that split the display. I would also see it on days where the car sat out in the sun all the time. I worked it's way towards the text that registered the station and CD info. I had it replaced at my 15K service. Actually they replace the whole instrument cluster.
-randy
