I live in suburban Chicago, where the average morning temperature has been zero degrees or lower over the past week.
When I turn my car on in the morning, it exhibits some sort of "crackling" noise. I leave the heat on when I turn the car off, and perhaps I should turn it off and wait until the engine is properly warmed before I turn it on.
But anyway, this has only started occuring the past few days. Once warm, the car runs fine and the engine does not make the same noise on subsequent start-ups throughout the day.
Any ideas? Should I call it in? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
AGaur
98.5 2.8QTS

I also live in a Chicago suburb and drive a 2.8. I haven't noticed any out of the ordinary noises, aside from the occassional suspension creak. I usually leave my heat set at about 68-70 and on auto, so when I turn the car on, it practically turns itself off. Good luck

This could be a lot of things; impossible to tell from description what is cause. My A4 Avant is quiet, although it does crank a little slower than I'd like (dino oil in engine, rather than synthetic?). On my old Coupe Quattro, the heater fan motor started to squeal like a banshee on a cold start whet it started to let go.
