This was my first time in the snow with my new A4 (98 2.8Q). I didn't have
any problems at all, It got a little nervous though when trying to go through snow
deeper than than the ground clearance of the car, but I made it through.
You just can't see anything out there though! It was hard to tell if that was
a 3" drift or an 18" drift in front of you!
Now that I'm home, I'm staying in.
Gary

Not exactly ChiTown, but close by...Indy. We have 12" on the ground, and it's still coming. I was out this a.m. and had zero problems - very cool! The Quattro/Pirelli-210A combo is outstanding!

Spud

Ventured out a few minutes ago in Madison, WI. Quattro is great...better than my SUV system. The Michelin Arctic Alpins are very nice...in 205/55/16 they were confident in the deep snow and really shine on the plowed hard pack and ice!
As for the ABS brakes, has anyone else experienced heavy brake pedal "thumping" when ABS is fully engaged. I engaged the clutch and stepped on the brakes in an empty parking lot to see how the car performed when it lost traction in heavy braking...the pedal thumped heavily and the brakes made much more noise than usual. When I got home, the front rotors were scoured and dirty instead of shiny from braking. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the same 205/55/16 Michelin Arctic Alpins that you do, and my exerience in the few inches of snow we've had today here in Ann Arbor, MI is similar. I also have the "thumping" and extra noise when the ABS comes on, I believe it's normal. I didn't check to see what the rotors looked like.
Jay
98.5 2.8QMS

I wanted a four wheel drive for days just like this, and a wanted a sedan for all the other days. So I ordered an A4. Great move, except my car is on the boat from Germany, expected in port in about 5 days. I guess I'll stay at home today and watch some football.

now in Detroit safely

Hi everyone, it's Cameron.
I'm in Detroit, visiting with Cathleen and Todd C. from the board. Cathleen's System S kit and mine are at about the same height... snowplow height.
The Pirelli's aren't nearly as good as the Blizzaks, and the car went sideways a couple of times, but what can you expect in a blizzard? The weather in Chicago is truly brutal, and the weather here isn't good either, but I got here safely.

I'm supposed to be playing hockey tonight. Not any more. I've been playing hockey since I started walking, and this is the first time this has happened to me. The rinks never close, hockey players know how to drive in the snow. It must be really bad out there...

It's been snowing here since yesterday, Friday, morning and measures about 12"-18". My apartment complex is on a very steep incline and they've plowed it 3 times already. I've purposely stopped at the base of the incline just to see what quattro is capable of and I'm impressed. More wheel spin than I expected and vehicle clearance is a problem but still impressive.
The warnings on the TV keep saying AVOID TRAVEL! I've drove around purposely trying to find spots to put my A4 1.8 to the test. Driving along in my de-badge quattro as people in a snow blower are waving me back. Watching those amazed looks as I keep chugging along BOOMING w/my 600-watts stereo system as if it was summer time.
What made me really appreciate my cars ability was when my neighbor needed help getting his car, a Ford Ranger, unstuck on the driveway. Knowing that I've been going up and down the drive way all day long. :-)

I was out in the blizzard for about 4 hours in downtown in my 97 2.8QM. Didn't have any problems. It was actually a lot of fun.
I drove my wife's jeep grand cherokee in the morning, and there was not much difference in performance between the two.
