What componant puts information on the PRNDL LED disply right above the clock? Is this componant present on cars with manual trannies? Is there any information on this in the section about the replacement instrument cluster?
Help me out folks... I think I'm on to something big here.
David

I think that the Automatic computer may control this.

when my shift display highlighted ALL shift options, the problem was resolved by going into the TCM (trans control module--in front passenger footwell); loose connection in the hefty wiring harness connection to the TCM was the problem;
that display on the dash serves as an error signal; 5 starts with some glitch in the trans system produces the "fault" signal of all letters/numbers illuminated with no change when you shift. Tech cleaned all harness side connections, fixed the loose wire, reassembled, cleared fault and the display returned.
Long way around your question, but the TCM is involved in the dash display.
Lewis
98.5 1.8T QSTip
