View Full Version : Splash guards = corrosion risk?

I was in Boston a couple of days ago and picked up the front splash guards from Clair Parts Express along with some other accessories. A couple of questions for others who have installed these:
1. Do the splash guards tend to trap dirt between themselves and the car? In particular, the retaining clips seem to push the plastic fender lining away from the lip of the fender body panel, creating an opening that might harbor dirt and corrosion. Has this been a problem? If so, I'm wondering if there's a good way to retain the top part of the guards without the clips.
2. Have you noticed that these guards are not up to Audi fit and finish standards? Mine seem to have a lot of excess flashing from the casting process that I needed to file off (one of the clip slots was 50% blocked by flashing).
Thanks!

I don't have any experience with mudflaps causing problems, but this is one reason I have not installed mudflaps on mine. I also was worried that the flaps would trap more salt, etc. than would be trapped without them.
TOm
1.8TQMS

I don't think you could make these things rust in a salt mine. I had the paint come off behind one on the front wheels on an old 5000 and it never rusted even though the bare metal was exposed. Cleaned it up and repainted it right before I sold the car.
