View Full Version : A4 as a hazard magnet

I owned my previous car for 7 years and had no collision damage at all. When I sold it it even had the original windshield (unusual in MI with all of the construction and gravel haulers). In just over a year of A4 ownership I have had the following already:
-- July '98 - Two months old, rock hits lower right w/s and puts a crack in it. Not serious enough to warrant replacement, so it's still there.
-- May '99 - Behind a truck on a 2-laner, the vacuum behind the truck sucks a plastic garbage can out of someone's driveway, which I can't avoid hitting. Dents to front edge of hood.
-- July '99 - Behind a @#$% truck again on I-94, a brick comes bouncing up from somewhere, punches thru the grille, and takes out my a/c condenser. $1800 (insurance covered) including condenser, radiator, and some bodywork.
-- Last Saturday - Tooling along local road at 50mph when a German Shepherd goes after the car in front of me. I see him in time and manage to avoid running over him, but he does smack into the side of the car. No damage to the car, and the dog limped away.

What is the deal here? I'm almost afraid to go out on the roads any more -- maybe I'll keep driving my wife's Grand Am (which has never been hit with ANYTHING).
Doug G
98 1.8TQM

although I got rear ended (first time in 25 years of driving) 13 days after I got my A4. First time I've ever owned a new car, so I'm wondering if it isn't more of a new car thing.

I got my a4 in nov of 98 - Jan 4th some dumb bitch totally blows a red light and BANG!!! well, now we're at well about $24,000 to fix it and it's still breaking down every month - No one seems to want to help me - Audi dealer, Audi Financial (this is a leased car) and my insurance have givin me nothing but excuses. All this wasn't even my fault - check it out!!!
21stcdb
1998 QM/garret

wreck gallery

Only one incedent in my first month of A4 ownership. I turn on to Metro Parkway (16 mile) and am getting up to speed. A guy pulls out of Meijers and is slow getting to speed. No problem! I'll pass him in the middle lane. Another person coming out of a second driveway at Meijers starts, hesitates, then starts out again. All the while angling for the lane I am in. I had to swerve to avoid getting hit. Thank gosh I had turned on to the road when there was a break in the traffic flow (16 mile is a very busy and major roadway). I knock on wood that my further journeys are safe. My sympathies are with you!
Mike U.
