Two things...
Since it's been so hot out, I've been cracking my windows/sunroof on 99 A41.8TQ open to vent while it's not garaged. Problem: alarm goes off almost without fail after a while (in the absence of any outside disturbance). I feel like a dunce asking, but is there a way to lock the car without arming the alarm, or will i need to have the sensitivity adjusted?
Regarding chip tuning, does this alter the 3 yr/50 maintenance or warranty at all? Any suggestions on the best buy for my chip tuning dollar?
My apologies if these questions have been addressed before.
(I checked some past posts and couldn't find specifics. really.)

On the alarm, just press the little button on the b pillar column, about 6" from the floor on the driver's side...this will disable the motion sensors till you unlock and lock the car again.
As far as chip tuning and warranty issues...check the archives, there's more info than you can shake a stick at. The short answer is it depends on your dealer. Technically, any modifications void the warranty on the parts changed and those directly affected by them. Some folks have had no problem, while others have been jerked around. Talk to the guys in the service department, and find a dealership which will work with you on this. Let's face it, if the dealer denies you warranty service on something because you've got a chip, even if he's wrong there's probably not much you can do about it. Unless you feel like hiring a lawyer and jumping through lots of legal hoops. The most important thing is finding a service department that will work with you.
As for which chip, everyone has got they're favorite. Check out Don P's site for his chip survey (link is on the links page). For price to performance, it's hard to beat Neuspeed ($200), but other chips offer stronger performance, of course they cost more money too. I haven't chipped yet, I'm leaning towards Hoppen because of their history with Audi racing in the US and the fact that MTM has a close relationship with Audi...much like AMG has with Mercedes. But I haven't made a final decision yet.
Regards,
Rodney
'99 A4 1.8tqms

There is a $100 discount floating around this site for a wett. chip. It usually is about $495. With the discount this insn't a bad deal($395). APR has a deal of about $599 when you hook up with about ten others. There is a post on here with a guy looking for members to purchase. I am scheduled to get the wett. chip for $395 this week. I figure for that price you can't go wrong. I feel very good about the APR chip as well.
Good Luck!!
