just waxed my brilliant black a4 today with blitz one grand, love that stuff! it comes off so much easier than meguiar's gold class. i'm concerned because some panels, in certain areas of the car, are still kind of grainy/gritty/dry feeling, instead of the desired baby's butt smoothness.
i tried some 3M hand glaze on those areas, to no avail. it didn't smooth or gloss those areas at all. what am i doing wrong? please help!
Here's the process I use for glass smooth surfaces BEFORE waxing:
Use ClayMagic on the entire car to remove the contaminants from the surface of the paint. This will remove that gritty, sandpaper feeling you described.
Use Zymol HD Cleanse (or other similar polish like 3M Hand Glaze) to remove the contaminants from the grain of the paint. This is where you will get the shine and color depth.
Follow those 2 steps with one or two coats of your favorite wax and you will have an awesome show car finish. Its a lot of work, but the results are awesome.

-doug
Try using the mother's clay bar system. I just
used it on my Silver A4 and it is as smooth
as a cue ball. Even the bottom side panel area
directly behind the wheel wells were smoother
than when I took delivery of my car. It takes off
all the grit and tar that accumulates. It does take quite a bit of time but it is well worth it.
Just follow the instructions and you won't go
wrong.
i have the same exact problem on my brilliant black and have been trying to find a solution. soembody told me compounding may work but i'm not sure.

Polishing compound and Rubbing compound were made for paint without clear coat. You'll ruin your car if you use it!!
Use the clay bar instead.

I have used clay on my brilliant black, following all instructions, and ended up with a contaminant-free (grit-free) surface that had lots of visible fine scratches. And this was following all directions to the letter, using lots of lubricant and no pressure on the clay. So be really careful! You don't want to get all of the crap off and then spend an afternoon buffing out the scratches!
How much time did you spend with the hand glaze? Unless you have some serious environmental conditions, it could be that you are not using enough elbow grease. It usually takes me about 2hrs to glaze my car (carefully from bumper to bumper) w/Meguiars No. 7. If you are spending less time than that, you won't get the full results. If you are spending that much time, then you need to go up one step in the abrasive power (fine abrasive cleaner) then redo the car with the hand glaze. Or go to clay if you are careful!
