Use a very mild CC safe polish like Meguirs Medallion paint cleaner and a foam "polishing" pad. Not a foam cutting pad, but a polishing pad. Never use wool.
After using the paint cleaner with the high speed polisher you should glaze the car using a machine glaze, using a foam "finishing" pad.
Then a good hand wax and the car would be perfect. No swirls.
I own a Grand National in addition to my A4. The GN has 1200 nmiles on it and have polished it twice, each time when it came out of storage.
I have never had a swirl to speak of.
I switched products to PROWAX products. There web site is www.prowax.com. There product list is very descriptive so it's never a guess which product to use. I wouod recommend their #1 polish and glaze for your car. It's a 2 in 1, but I aways follow with a pure glaze. Better results.
Good luck

My '00 Ebony Pearl A4 is on the way and I was wondering if you'd recommend the same for it? I just bought an orbital polisher and have never used one, so your advice is greatly appreciated. Also, where is a good place to get various pads? This is a Craftsman orbital polisher. Thanks :-)
