My A4 has about 1020 miles at the moment, and thus far I've done pretty well at keeping the revs below 4000RPM. One time I did wind it up to about 5K, and what a roar I heard !! It sounded almost like a formula 1 car.
I have seen a few posts describing the 1.8t's "loosening up" and feeling more powerful after the break-in period. Is this a typical occurrence, or were those just special cases? Or, is it simply due to the fact that after 1500 miles one can go ahead and take it above 4k RPM on a regular basis?

thanks
-K. Never saw a rev limit in the owners manual when I was looking up the break in, they just wanted you to avoid constant speed and full throttle. But anyway, now that you have some break in it does loosen up, and gets smoother also. Have fun and watch out for that red line, it comes up fast.

i have 1020 miles on my '99 1.8TQM and i've reved it up past 6000 a few times...what roar? i've never heard a roar. just the same buzzy-engine sound of a typical 1.8.
the exhaust is too quiet...it's gotta go.
