View Full Version : A question about the Xenon's on A4/S4....

I know the Euro spec Xenon's that everyone has been putting on their A4's are two piece.
Meaning that the headlight unit and the corner light unit are two separate pieces. What I'm
wondering is if anyone knows if the MY2000 US cars (most specifically the S4) will have the
two piece design, or if they will be one piece like the new 99.5 A4 projection headlight units?
The obvious motive behind this is that I want clear corners on my S4, but don't have to have to
spend $1400 (or whatever it is) to buy the entire Euro spec assembly.
Corey S
Wett 97 1.8tqm
'00 S4 in "D" status

....Why would you (I, anyone) order a car before knowing all these important details. I won't even start on that very minor issue of price....

Waiting for all the fact (i.e. xenons, in dash cd, price, delivery dates) to be in before I order my S4.... colour me excentric!

I willing to give up knowing a few of these details in order to get this car right away.
Not to mention my warranty is about to run out on my A4 (46,000 miles).
Corey S
...kept trying to respond, but for some reason it won't post, so here goes:
Dr. Ferry built these cars to be driven (and proved their reliabiltiy and durability at the track). Most (85%)of 911's are second cars, with the average demo being men over age 45. That's not ot say they aren't driven, but 911's have a pretty big driving envolpe, and I would bet most drivers are well within them (one gains a health respect for the 911 spin the first time the back end starts coming around).
Also, I know a lot of Porschefiles who question a low milage older car, There is a lot of bad things that can occur to a car that hasn't been properly exercised. I passed on a '85 cab with 15K, after my mechanic point some lack of use problems. It ain't the milage its the care and attention. Plus, higher milage cars are more reasonably priced.
True, Porsche parts can be expensive, but we all know the pain of Audi parts - or maybe it's just me over the past 12 years. You ever have to do a window regulator job, after the cable breaks? Here's a fun fact the cabriolet top is $3K and the frame is anothe $3K!
Anyway, as for me, I'm at 95K no major work in sight. Engine runs like a clock. No chatter in the clutch, and outside the exppected PM, my cost have been very reasonable. I couldn't be happier with the car. And, like I have blathered on before what a driving position and experience.
Great way to learn more about the different years, is by reading Excellence. Bruce Anderson updates specific vintages each month. Bottom line -there is no sustitute...

I pitched the idea to my wife in a subtle manner as a way of convincing her that a brand new sporty car is perhaps a better alternative to a used sports car and she loved it. But not in the way that I expected.
I tried to tell her that the NB would be a new, fully warrantied, car but she'd have non of that. She thinks that I deserve to drive a Porsche but since it isn't practical to transport kids to school (my job) she would be very happy to keep it carbon free for me during the weekdays while I use the Audi or Volvo.
Hey, what's 6 grand for a new roof anyway, compared to the love of a spouse!
Thanks mpm. Thanks alot.
;-)

unless your wife really likes to drive, as great as a 911 is, it's not like cruisin down the lane in her Volvo wagon. My wife likes being the passenger...I'd take that logic loop out further, but I'd really get myself in trouble.
Hey, if you want some search tips, let me know. These cars are like trading cards, and I know some guys that specialize in locating them. Once you get the bug (no pun intended to the NB) you're hooked for life.
Now you need to help me work through my Coupe / S4 delema : )

Perhaps someone with a 99.5 or newer A4 will want to buy them off of me for around
the same price (or a little lower) I would pay for a Euro spec set of these Xenon's.
Corey S
Wett 97 1.8tqm
'00 S4 in "D status"
