I am probably going to get a set of 18'' wheels. Either Borbet type TD or maybe Hamann if I can find a used set. I have the sport suspension.
We all know how great a lowered suspension and big rim/tire combo look. I'm hoping with the sport susp and 18" wheels I will come close to that look without lowering.
I understand the benefits of lowering but I am happy with the handling and ride. More tire will certainly improve matters.
What do you guys/gals think?
jasont
1.8tqms
Your tires will need to be 225/40/18 to come as close as possible to the 205/55/16 that we have on the sport package. The difference is very small between the two and should keep your speed accurate (225/40/18 is about 26.18 inches in diameter, while 205/55/16 is about 26.25 inches). Also note that you will be seeing mostly rim, and very little tire, although the gap between the fender and the wheel will be the same as the current sport setup.
-Ash 98.5 1.8TQMS

I have seen 17" rims on stock cars equipped with the factory sport package. The gap is just a tad too large to acheive the look that I believe you seek. Just my opinion though.
Mike
I don't think it will bug you too much after. I cannot say for sure of course, since my car is still stock! I've also never seen a car with 18" rims that wasn't lowered. I've seen several with 17" and they looked good even without lowering....I suggest you post on the wheel & tire forum as those guys will probably have a better idea (unless you already have). One thing to consider though, now that the tire is so thin compared to before, the gap may not look right with this....What I've come to notice is that a tire package looks good when the gap is about the same size as the tire's thickness or less....if you get the 225/40/18 tires, I think the gap will definately be bigger than the tire thickness....
-Ash 98.5 1.8TQMS

...I'm not sure why. When i went from 14" to 16" on my 90 (six years ago), there was about three weeks until i had my suspension put on and for some reason, even with relatively the same overall diameter, it made my car look like some off-road machine. Something about the wheel being so big and then just a little bit of tire before a big gap. Just my opinion of course. By the way, what wheels are you looking at?
JD
