Whoa, I called my dealer today and asked what their policy was about honoring a warranty if the car had mods on it. He said that they would not honor it even if only a chip had been added, and he said he was sorry he could do nothing it was audi's policy not theirs.. Is this the bull**** I think it is, since they are the only dealer in Alaska they are probably just screwing us over!!... please respond, especially if you have experience with Eero VW/Audi of Anchorage, I know there are a couple other ppl out there... Btw, if I chipped would they know without purposely lookin for it???
THX alot
JakeAK

Yes, this is correct, a chip will void the warranty. BUT only on the parts directly affected by the chip (same for other modifications). Some dealers are more tollerant than others. Audi does not encourage mods...they probably won't help you get the dealer to honor the warranty on a modded car, call them and ask...I'd be interested to know what they say. In the end, unles you've got the time and money to mount a legal assault, it comes down to what the dealer is willing to do.
They would probably know it was chipped the moment they stepped on the gas. The chipped cars I've ridden in feel quite different than stock. For stealth either a socket (which could by identified if sent back to Audi and opened up) or a seperate ecu entirely (like APR is offering). You might also ask Audi what would be involved in bringing the engine up to TT spec (180 hp) and how much that would cost (probably not cheap), that might not impact the warranty.
Regards,
Rodney
'99 A4 1.8tqms

I agree the change to 180hp in TT -style would became very expensive since it is not only the software that is different.
Cams and intake are different to start with.
Marko Litmanen
A3 1.8T Wett 1.0 K&N
