I have a friend who develops the computers in car engines. I asked him what it will take for him to modify my chip and he said he'll get the
fuel maps and various specs from audi and his company can do it for about 30 bucks. AND THATS FROM SCRATCH!! You got some of these guys charging $400 and $500 and they even use your old chip! Don't get me wrong, l plan on modifying my chip. He did say that chip tuning is a cheap way to get a lot of power, but for best results, the exaust system and air supply should be modified. I will not say what company he works for because it will enfringe their contract, but be aware of what the
chip mod companies are doing

No one said chip tuners aren't making money. Your choice to buy or not to buy...
caveat emptor...
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

but it cost him $1600 to buy the damn thing.
Sure, write your own software for your turbo motor fuel injection and ignition system - just make sure your cell phone battery is charged up, so you can call somebody to pick you up. Wouldn't want to take a taxi, THEY RIP YOU OFF !!! They only burn $2.50 in gas and they charge you $25 for the trip !!!
"Chip", as we will now call him, is just another dead fish on the beach of life. Hope the smell goes away soon.....

And I suppose that all software companies rip you off, too? After all, a blank CD-R costs less than $1, so why should I have several hundred dollars for the latest version of <fill in the blank>.
Oh, and don't get me started about the music industry. $15 for a CD? What a rip!
Ever hear of "intellectual property"? Obviously not.
Well, if you feel comfortable having your friend modify the chip in your $25k Audi, go for it. Me, I prefer to let someone who has researched, tested, and perfected the ECU program work on my car. Good luck with your mods.
p.s., why not use your real name and post an email address...you might be taken a little more seriously?
Have him spend $30,000 on an A4 1.8T. Then have him spent countless hours re-programming the ECU, then have himblow his turbo a couple of times till he gets the ECU right. Then have him buy a bigger turbo and exhaust manifold and do a whole production run of exhausts, spend more hours re-programming an ECU for the larger turbo, then open up a few phone lines and a little office. Then after he sees he depleted himself of say, $50,000, ask him if he wants to sell 200 chips for , oh, 50 bucks a peice, for a total profit of $10,000. Then he can sell his A4 for $23,000 and wonder where hes gonna get another $17,000 to make up for his loss.
=) now who is getting ripped off?
I love these people

if someone is satisfied with spending $500 on an upgrade, then that is their business, not yours. You don't like it, don't play.
(ANALOGY) I am sure that someone who went to a private school of equal reputation to a public school doesn't feel ripped off. They enjoyed the experience and felt it was worth the price of "admission."
So what do you care anyway? How do you profit from this statement of yours? (dollars or revenge or stir-the-pot-fanatasies?) This society is based upon consumerism, markets, supply and demand. If you want to build true wealth, of course, you might not even buy a car, live in a tent, and sock every last penny away. CARS ARE RIPOFFS! This is just as irrational a statement as you have STUTTERED (you might try the mouse click "copy" feature on something more worthwhile such as a financial advice column which you could utilize to invest and grow your earned $500 (remember, a penny saved is a penny earned, of course if the income is realized and not sheltered in non-realized assets, you are really only earning about 70 cents or so after Uncle Sam takes his slice, so THE GOVERNMENT IS A RIPOFF! Afterall, I think the government is one of the WORST returns on your investment that you can make.)
Let's face it, you allocate dollars to your prioritized consumption and/or wealth building categories. Yours, obviously, do not appear to be the same as others on this board, or perhaps within your own home...
Kirk
p.s. the majority of millionaires in this country, drive used domestic cars, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee being the preferred model. They live BELOW their means, including their residential neighborhood.

I have a friend who cooks at home and says that he can prepare an entire meal for under $8.00! You fools who go out to a nice restaurant and get ripped off for $30, $40, $50 etc are suckers!
Food is food and it just gets crapped out anyway - so why spend the extra dough? Let's all get together and shut down the restaurant industry!!

Actually Greedspeeed stated this earlier this year--that the chips are overpriced---
They have hundreds of under $200 chips running now in the 1.8t---its the way to do business--"What ever the market will bear"..if there are customers that will pay $600 for a chip then there will be someone to supply them.

Wow, what an enlightening piece of information. Hey, my friend is a painter, and he will paint my house for like next to nothin! Watch out for all those other painters out there charging market prices!! This is exactly what I was referring to in my post on the last board. SM

Talk about a rip-off! I could have bought an S4 with the amount of taxes I paid this year.
Anyway, it's hard to take this guy seriously. First, he calls himself "anti-chiptuner" and then goes on to say that he will modify his chip. Ummm, isn't that the same as tuning? Do we have an identity crisis in the house? And of course, this is not the first time he's posted this message to instigate the chippers on here. And, it worked. Here I am, wasting my time writing this response. Enough is enough.
