I am close to buying a 2.8 and cannot decide whether to go with a 99.5 or order a 2000. A few questions:
1) How much more should I expect to pay if I order?
2) What the heck is a homelink remote transmitter? It’s on the 2000, but I can’t find a description of it.
3) I live in Southern California. Is quattro really necessary? Sure, the resale might be better, but I’m not sure I’ll need it.
4) Are sport seats worth it? They’re apparently hard to find unless you order them.
5) Any clue as to how much the navigation option will run?
6) If I order, how long should I expect to wait until delivery and when will I know the pricing?

this is what i know from browsing the forum and naggin people at my dealership.
1) I think the markup this year is 3% assuming you can talk a 2000 down as far as a 99.5
2)homelink is a garage oppener installed in the car, normally holds 3 settings, easily reprogrammable
3)My thoughts on the quattro issue, get a passat if you dont want quattro.. it is dopeness
4)I dont know about sport seats, I would be getting them if i was getting a 2.8, but im getting a 1.8t and cant get leather ;(
5)nav was like 250-350 last year i think?? if it is the same thing as the computer
6)my dealer will know pricing in 4 weeks, and it will take 4 months or so for delivery but im in Alaska.. ive heard ppl say they have already ordered their 2Ks but without pricing im better
hope I helped... if ppl can input on my performance chip ??s I would like some opinions !!
JakeAK

quattro is unnecessary in So Cal, but it is still a fun toy if you want it. In an area with more snow and rain, quattro is definitely a useful tool, but around here it's just not needed. I've owned my car for over a year now and have yet to lose control or spin out. Never lost traction in rain either. And..... I can peel out if I want :) (although it's a puny little peel out on the front tires instead of the MANLY rear wheel peel out from the 2.8 liter V6 in my old BMW). I don't buy the argument that you should opt for a Passat instead of the A4 unless you take quattro, because a fronttrak A4 will still outhandle a Passat, and it looks better. Sports seats are nice, if you want sport seats. Do you like that kinda thing? Are they comfortable for you? If you like them, get them.
Mike

1) ??
2) home link sys: it's gadgety .. and being a gadget freek i'd buy it. :)
3) quattro: GET IT! it's not only for snow. it's for handling period. i've driven a similarly classed domestic rwd and a japanese fwd. the awd definitly handles better in similar situations/conditions. why do you think it was banned from competition? :)
4) sport seats: kinda depends on your driving style. do you want to stay seated when you take that corner at speeds well above the posted limit? not that i'm encouraging you to. :)
5) navigation: ??
6) expect the wait to be unbearable. :)
-jasyn
99.5 1.8tqms 14days old and 1483mi

1) If you order, you'll pay a bit more, that's the usual experience. If you order, you can get Xenons. GET THEM.
2) was answered
3) Depends on how you are driving. Yada yada, I have quattro in N-CA, because of the way I drive because I can afford it (seriously, isn't that what it boils down to?). On the other hand, I survived 12 winters in Switzerland with a FWD Audi and guess what, never got stuck, so sure as hell you won't get stuck in S-CA. As for the handling: yes if you go to the track you'll notice, and if you take the off-ramp at 60 you will notice too. Other than that, comparing a A4 FWD to "another FWD car" or "another RWD car" like some other people did is literally comparing apples to oranges. Speaking as someone who actually drove a FWD A4 for a while, no in normal life you won't notice, until you decide to sell. In contrast, in daily driving, you will notice the lack of Xenon light. GET XENON.
4) Don't have them (I ordered my car so I could have had them). Then I regretted. Then I drove other people's cars w/ sport seats. I no longer regret. It's a personal preference, but for the daily drive, and the occasional 600mi haul, I prefer my normal seats. On the track I am sliding a bit. That makes about 600 miles per year sliding, and 29,400 miles per year sitting comfortably.
5) No matter what, don't get it. It's not yet ready for prime time. And yes I am a gadget boy, and I would not get it.
6) Delivery - 4-5 mos, pricing - 1 mo (my guess)
Now take from the above whatever you like, and leave the rest :-)
Good luck,
- Stan
98.5 30vQMS

My A4 Page
