I have an A4 with the upgraded Bose stereo. I have been noticing that the radio display appears messed up every once and a while. If I shut the ignition and re-start the car and turn the radio back on it appears to reset itself back to normal. It also appears to happen when it is very cold out. Have others had this experience and does anyone know why and how it can be remedied. I have not yet spoken to my dealer's service dept.
Thanks

Same thing happened to me. The top line of the display would go blank. It would make the display characters illegible It hasn't happened in about three months. I had forgotten all about it. It started in the summer(July), and ended about three months ago.

Tony 1.8 Bose.

I had a power up display bug once as well. Every character in the display was cycling 0 through 9 repeatedly. The effect was similar to what happens when you hold down the station 1 button on power up (which displays the fequency for that preset and in the last positions the signal strength in Hex), but different in that no station fequency was displayed, and all positions were cycling. Its only happened once, and I’m hoping some sort of diagnostic was triggered by accident; I’ve not been able to force it to occur.
On a different note: I’m off to dealer tomorrow because the backlit display for the radio has died (its hard to find all those buttons in the dark). Has anybody else had this happen ?
Mark M 99 A4Q Tip

My car is only a week old, but the radio started doing the same thing on its first day. I also noticed that the problem seems to happen when it's very cold and goes away when the ignition switch is cycled (just turning the radio off and on does not help). The symptom is that about a half dozen pixels in the display are scrambled (either on when they should be off or vice versa). Also, when the radio is in this funky state and I hold down FM2 while powering up (to invoke the GALA programming mode), the "G" in GALA goes blank and only "ALA" shows up!
BTW, my radio is just the standard Concert, non-Bose unit.
