I just got my 1.8T qms yesterday. Has Bose radio system
It seems to me that the radio reception is terrible.
I get some static and scratchy noise on most FM
stations. It seems to me, I get better reception on
my radio in my 1996 GTI - anyone else have this
problem, or is something wrong with this radio?
Took delivery on my new '99 A4 2.8QMS w/Bose Concert Sound System on the 7th. I was somewhat concerned about how good the reception would be on the FM radio, since I live some 70+ miles from a major population center (Memphis, TN) and its better choice of broadcast music. I had read several critical comments about the radio's reception capabilities on this forum.
So far, my experience has been has been just the opposite. The FM tuner in the Concert radio has the best sensitivity of any OEM sound system I have ever used, including the optional Nakamichi system used in the Lexus LS400. I have traveled with the car and the stations that I have picked have stayed loud and clear for many miles further than I would have expected.
The only suggestion I might have for you to check on your system is the Local/DX setting. At least on the Concert radio, the sensitivity of the FM can be set for operation in the middle of very strong radio signal areas(Local) and for distant operation when you are trying to receive stations in fringe reception areas(DX). Check your sensitivity setting (if your system has that capability) to make sure you are not set on the Local setting.
Otherwise you may have a problem with the antenna/radio connection or a faulty radio.
Remember, an FM station putting out a fairly strong signal can only be received over fairly level terrain for a maximum of about 65/75 miles.

Thx for your comments. After further testing, I believe I have determined that I have a bad speaker that is causing the static. Dealer will check it out.... Glad to hear the radio should be first rate when I get it fixed.
