Hey all, I plan to be an often visitor to this trove of information. I had visited the site a while back when I was dreaming about a TT... Now that I have decided on a A4 for my next car I am amazed with the amount of knowledge, alright. I am starting the slow decision making process of getting a new car, so... After chipping, which of the two engines is faster, and how much slower than the s4??!.. THX all, btw i currently have a '96 A6 and enjoy it very much but look forward to a less "executive" and more sporty car!!
JakeAK

...it's chipped. Would not trade it for a 1.8, even tho they kick my butt on the track. Thing is, I live on the freeways and even more so in traffic jams, so the question how much slower is a rhetorical one :-)
- Stan

Chip experiences

We will have to wait and see. Audi turbocharged engines (based on the 1.8) have proven immortal before, even highly tuned versions up to 200hp/liter. However, I haven't heard of high miles (200-500K) 2.8's yet. There must be some out there by now.
Any comparison to another manufacturer is completely invalid. I would be wary of a 1.8T producing over 300hp without major internal mods, other than that I have no qualms until proven wrong :)
Todd W
