from what I remember I think that anything over 25 MPH over the posted speed limit is charged as wreckless endangerment in California.
Seriously, I think you might need to consult an attorney to get real info on what to do.
You were doing 140 mph and you want to know what you should do? Perhaps you should have your head examined! Do you realize the danger you put yourself and others on the road in when driving that fast? And this is your third ticket in three months?
I am happy that you will probably have your insurance cancelled!

CHPs are just guys doing their job....givem a break. Don't get me wrong, I do go fast from time to time...not 140 though. I get the majority of my ya-ya's off by doing autox events and driving schools with the Quattro Club and SCCA. Maybe you should consider them as well. :-)
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

I got a 110 in 65 a few months ago here in CA. Things I found out:
Anything over 100 can get you tossed immediately in jail. It is a two-point reckless driving (over 100 mph) offense, which is different from merely a one-point speeding offense. You can get four points within 12 or 18 months (I forget) before they suspend your license. They can suspend your license for even just one reckless offense, but that is unusual.
In my case, it was a first offense, since I had a clean driving record over the past three years. The judge gave me traffic school, probation for 2 years and a $750 fine. If I were in your shoes, I would hire a traffic lawyer right now to handle all three cases. Somehow you have to plea the >100 offense to <100 or beat one of the other two tickets. Otherwise you're going to be riding mass transit for a while. Also, try to remember exactly what was said between you and the officer during your stop. Did you admit driving 140? If you did, then he probably noted that on the back of his copy of the ticket. Did he radar you or pace you? Write down all the details of the stop while they are still fresh in your mind (where, when, traffic, surroundings, weather conditions). This may come up later during the trial and could be important to helping your case.
So the bottom line is, if you must speed, keep it under 100 in CA - even if you are in the middle of nowhere with perfect visibility and no traffic. It gets serious and expensive above that.

ok here is my situation
Ticket 1 went to traffic school this was a 60 on a 45MPH traffic
Ticket 2 98 on a 75 Ticket was paid 281
Ticket 3 120+ on 65 need to go to court?
i think i will call for a traffic lawyer
Thanks for advice! i am going to start using that buzzer on the A4 that regulates speed.

There is nothing inherently dangerous about 140MPH in an A4. I happened
to ask some (real) German friends about how fast A4's like mine where routinely
driven on the Autobahn. They said 'oh, 200-220 km/h to cruise. The 2.8 is
for the people who like to go fast.'
What is dangerous is that nobody else is goin that fast or expecting you to go
that fast. And US roads aren't maintained in expectation of that kind of
speed.

...with one recorded speeding offense in 11 years of driving, but for 114mph (sorry Steve S; but it was not in CA, I was alone on the freeway (other than the cop) and had a really good excuse): if you can't control yourself, set the speed alarm to 85, will beep at 90, that's what I do. If you still get zapped, you knew what was coming, no excuses.
Since it's in CA, 120 will get you really bad. Get a lawyer right away. I can hardly imagine they would have mercy and lower it to 99, given your previous record. Since you had one point suspended and went to school, it's 3 points on your record and if you behave yourself for another year, you may save yourself the pain of mass transit.
- Stan
If you're over 100 mph in California you're toast. I'd really like to see what an attorney can do for you with three pending speeding tickets. Probably the best he can do is get the tickets consolidated so you'll only have one trip to the courthouse...and only have to writh one check.
Good luck...and stay off the freeways in my neighborhood.
You can check out the Vehicle Code citations at: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

I've taken my 2.8 135 (governer) a few times and its handled great...actually one time I was racing with another guy in upstate NY who also had a silver 2.8 w/ sport mirrors and Ontario plates (are you out here on the forum???)
It all depends on road conditions and driving ability (we know the car has the ability) and ofcourse if you get caught..even w/ a radar detector, you don't have much of a chance of slowing down to below 65 by then.

IMHO the only good thing a radar detector is good for is letting you know when it's time to pull over. Otherwise they're a waste of good money.

It is easy to drive a good car fast. Unfortunately, those who drive at unreasonable speeds (especially on CA freeways) are dangerous. Dont get me wrong. I like driving my 97 A4 TQM and often exceed the speed limit (75-80) but 120+ is well beyond safe.
You need to grow up and drive responsibly. The reason that I write tickets is to change the unsafe habits of unsafe drivers. You still havent learned. I probably would have arrested you and impounded your car.

I heard someone in a similar boat on the radio. The radio station had a lawyer to answer questions. This is all in Virginia but things I'm sure are similar elsewhere. VA is a strict state IMO when it comes to speeding.
The officer must have proof of the radar gun's calibration. If he brings forth on your request a form which is a photocopy or does not have the proper signatures (check with your lawyer on this) then you can get off on a technicality.
I am not a lawyer, but it sounds like a typical US Law loophole...
Dimitri
====
99.5 1.8TQMS

Well i was in the Diamond lane he jumped in but he was like 8 trucks back. i suspected a cop so i slowed down. when i saw the cop my speedomiter red 143mph but when the cop caught up it was 115. i guess is crown vic only reads up to 120? but he wrote down 120.
as for me growing up well looks like i jsut hit 40. seriously i don't plan on speeding from now on.
Quick question lieutenant?
what do you think will happen in court. my license will be taken away huh? well..... i guess....

just kidding. Most of the Lt.'s I know are strictly behind the desk. There are a few who get out, but not many.
I agree with your post 100% When I first read JC M.'s post, I typed exactly what I would have done and thought about it, then erased it. Cop thinking... As you know, many people do not understand and misinterpret actions/words of officers.
If I was 'even' able to get someone to stop going 100+, they'd definitely be arrested for reckless driving. Although I drive a slick, these dang Ford Crown Vic's are slugs when it comes to acceleration from a stop, I certainly miss the Caprice. I was able to stop a black 911 Carrera last week doing 97 in a 60 though! Was really surprised he didn't try to out run the slug.

If you run over something and have a blowout in the diamond lane at 140, at least here in MD, chances are no Jersey barrier is going to stop you and you could go right over the median, grass strip, etc., into the oncoming lanes. That is what scares me.
Paul
'98.5 A4 1.8TQ in Pearl

It is possible that the officer who cited you will not show up. If this happens, then you can count your blessings. However, if you are found guilty, then your fate depends on your driving record. If you have too many points, then your license will be suspended. You can make appeal to the magistrate, advising him/her that you need to drive because of your job. Then there is a possibility that you will be given limited driving previliges. If you have really learned your lesson, then be stright with the magistrate and tell him/her so. Good luck with your case.
