I have a 96 A4 2.8 with a delta radio and bose speakers. I dont want to pay $600 for a new alpine cd changer from the dealership and I dont want to go through the FM channel. Any suggestions? Can you send any suggestions to my email address also? Thanks.

Clair sells it for $479. URL is listed below. And no, I'm not affiliated with Clair, I'm just a satisfied customer.
Andy Hedin

Clair Parts Express

Tom, I looked at a few Alpine models and only found one with the right plug. It was still in the factory packing and on sale at a wholesale store for $175. I got the manager of the store to let me take it the the car and see if it would work. I extracted the plug from the trunk and the changer plugged right in and powered up. I loaded 6-disk and the player loaded the #1 disk when I inserted the cartridge. However, that is as close as I got. The Bose headunit refused to recognize that there was a changer hooked up.
I broke down and bought a changer from Clair and it was money well spent. the Bose stereo sounds MUCH better with the changer than it ever did with cassettes. If you are lucky, you might be able to buy one used from someone in the classified section.
Installing the changer is a no-brainer in a 96/97A4. Just pop the plastic 'nuts' in the holes in the rear deck, screw in the brackets, attach the changer to the brackets and plug it in. You will need a philips screwdriver and about 10-min.
The $525 I spent on the changer was the best upgrade money I have spent on my A4.
Robert Jordan
