The deal IS that it comes from the current model number of the 1552 VAG Tool. Since, 40% the work they perform is on Audi vehicles. The name was chosen to be more encompassing of Audi, but at the same time not to exclude VW. So there you have it. Plus, some Audi owners (NO NAMES) might feel a little, let's say, "weird" taking their car to a VW tuner to have it worked on or parts installed, etc. So they specialize in VAG enhancements. VAG = "Volkswagen Audi Group".
