View Full Version : How come this forum... AndrewT 08-22-1999, 06:30 PM doesn't include 1993-1996 S4/S6? Its still an S4, isnt it? I'm not telling you how to run this site, I have no complaints, its just a suggestion. -andrewt Jason Teller 08-22-1999, 06:49 PM This is the perfect place for folks with the "older" S4 to chat as well. We just don't have the specs online. We haven't tried to be a historical reference... yet :-) Jason Adam T 08-22-1999, 09:02 PM I hope people don't get discouraged from posting info/questions about earlier S4s. These cars are still great automobiles and should be discussed hear along with the bi-turbo S4. Adam T 00 S4 Cactus green October? robfox 08-22-1999, 10:25 PM "For discussion of the Audi S4 model, from 1998-present" Quoted from the page with the list of forums. -rob Jason Teller 08-23-1999, 03:42 AM I'll fix that right now. Jason Todd W 08-23-1999, 08:42 AM Jimmy Pribble 08-23-1999, 10:06 AM this has become accepted practice on both the quattro List and the S-Cars Online Discussion Group. It really makes things much easier. As an owner and proponent of the original S4, I would love to see more discussion on that model, just because I think most org.ers still don't know that much about it. Regards, Jimmy

Jimmy's Audi S4 quattro Pages

Todd W 08-23-1999, 11:40 AM I don't fit in them and they cost too much for the performance (my 5ktq is at least as fast as an UrS4 and a lot cheaper, in fact I might be faster than a chipped UrS4). A 91 200q 20vt would be the ticket, despite having the old style climate control. If you could find decent ones for less than $20K, then I would consider them again. Todd W Jimmy Pribble 08-23-1999, 03:07 PM There is no way that your 5ktq is as fast as an UrS4, unless you have made modifications. Here are the stock numbers for the UrS4: HP:227 Torque:258lb/ft (same as new S4, BTW) 0-60:6.1 sec. (from C&D) Top Speed (after you unplug the gov.):152mph (from Audi) Needless to say, a chipped S4 (which takes the horsepower to 270-280) will get to 60 in the 5's. That is before any serious modifications. 330+hp is not uncommon in the S4 world. The '91 200tq comes close to the stock numbers, but not quite: (all from C&D) HP:217 Torque:227lb/ft 0-60:6.8 sec. Also, I just picked up my S4 for $16,500. It being "decent" or not, is open to debate. Check the link to decide for yourself. I hope this didn't come off as being too obnoxious. I don't typically get into the "my car is faster than your car" thing. It's nothing personal; facts are just facts. Love a good debate, Jimmy

Jimmy's Audi S4 quattro Pages

Todd W 08-24-1999, 06:32 AM Sorry, didn't mean to get competitive. My point is that my 5ktq was as fast as a stock UrS4, and it will be as fast as a chipped UrS4 soon. It doesn't have the wide torque band of the UrS4, but it weighs 500lbs less. And I have not put $15K into it. The UrS4 is capable of a lot more, 450hp without opening the engine, but I can't afford those mods. I wanted to put an UrS4 engine in my UrQ, but now I am leaning towards a 1.8T conversion in hopes of saving weight. The UrS4's are much better cars than my 5ktq in many ways, but in the end I can't justify the extra cost. Todd W Jimmy Pribble 08-24-1999, 11:17 AM Whew, glad you take my post the right way; I like everything all nice and friendly! :) The 1.8t transplant sounds interesting, but if your car is already as fast as an UrS4, it sounds like you are putting out more power than you can get in a modified 1.8t. I can't imagine that the weight savings could be all that much. Am I wrong? Besides, it would come at the cost of the legendary smoothness of the I5. IMHO, that would be too great a price to pay, unless your engine is worn out and you simply have to replace it. I know all about weight, though. With a full tank of gas and me in the car, my UrS4 weighs nearly two tons for Pete's sake! Todd W 08-24-1999, 01:50 PM The 86 5ktq has a 10VT, MC code, which will produce a minimum of 275hp the next time it runs. The 83 UrQ has a W-crap code 10VT. The engine itself is fine, but the fuel system and electronics are junk. It cuts out every 100 yards, but somehow gets me to work every day. If the next minivan decides to total my 5ktq instead of the UrQ, the engine/exhaust will go into the UrQ and the suspension/wheels will go into a 91 200TQ, UrS4, or a V8 5pd depending on what's available at the time. Otherwise, a 4 cylinder will leave a lot more room for an intercooler in the UrQ. Vortrag/APR is working on 400hp 2 liter conversion for the 1.8T. Ah, to dream! Yes, I would miss the 5 cylinder noises, but by the time that I can afford any conversion there will be a lot more 1.8T's available than UrS4 engines. Todd W Jimmy Pribble 08-25-1999, 09:29 AM |
