As most of the info in the archives is quite old and not particularly helpful, please let me know what kind of engine warming devices you have used, what they cost, and where you had them installed. (I live in Denver)<p>My preference would be to use a coolant type as the others sound like they are less effective and that the dipstick type is just bad.<p>The -30 F temps in the mountains a few weeks ago were awfully hard on the car and although it did start, it sounded pretty bad for a while, even idling.<p>Thanks

You might want to keep an eye on VW Accessories (for 1.8T Passat/Beetle). So far, though, I don't think they have anything available for the 1.8T. I am waiting for a block heater for my 2.8.<p>Good luck.

Conventional oil will turn to glue at 30 below - 0-30 wt synthetic will flow like 0 wt down to -35 degrees so your starter will work a lot easier at xtreme temps.
