Has any of you in the Rochester NY area ever dealt with Holtz Audi dealer?
Any impressions and tips to pass along?
I've been there once, and they seem to be quite passive. How are they in terms of
pricing? Since they're the only one in the area, the could be keeping prices way high.
Are they? Are they willing to get haggled down?
I have purchased a 1998.5 A4 QMS Bose, Leather, Trip computer, ect. Great pcice, $32,600. in June. However, their prep on the car was the worse I have ever experienced (I live in San diego now). In fact, my suggestion to you is conser an alternative to the purchase of an A4. That is, unless, you are willing to live with a rough idle (all the time), squeeking brakes everytime you stop, and a car company who's service may be second only to GM. Honestly, by a Lexus and be happy you did!!
Think about this, a thirtyfive thousand dollar car and when you bring it in for service you are NOT provided with a loaner car...go figure?
BTW, I just laugh; Audi of America's indifference is money spent elsewhere in the future, ha, ha, ha, ha!
Good luck

For those speculating on my motivation, it is not the dealer- it is simply the car (a great car in many ways; however, the areas of greatness hardly make up for the deficiencies and aggravation). Though the dealer frequently is unaware of current bulletins and they have to be explained and then verified. The issue is the "car" and Audi in general.
For those of you who may disagree with this posting, welcome to America, the land of the free and opinionated
R-
He might have experience with other 30K + cars, and sees obvious deficiencies in their design and universal service policies.
There a peculiarities about my car every week, with the display, the odd adjustments for the climate control, the cupholders (even the new ones!) the location of the light switch and turning signal, the seatbelts....
The service people are mildly attentive, when they overheard what my profession was the service manager changed his approach, QUICKLY! Ridiculous, and now my problem diserves personal attention with the manager and mechanic, a free car washing...
I would suspect that anyone who chooses a 30+ car is entitled for quality "amenities" and service.
Overall, I would select the better car mechanically and performance wise vs the amenities. Audi could use a little bit more thoughtfulness in its design! I could go on and on, about the quirkiness, but my family is a bunch of engineering geeks focused on design and innovation!

Huh?

Thank you for offering additional guidance for those who may be missing the obvious.
In addition, the dealer and A of A have been as attentive and accommodating as can be expected from this fumbling automotive company (including the rental of the Volvo C70 for two weeks. Note: the stated policy is moot as it is related to providing a service vehicle).
I should point out that this rental was compelled in light of my profession.
Thanks again!
R-

I'm sorry that you have not had a positive experience with you A4 or your dealer. Sharing your opinions and experience with the readers of this forum is useful in helping people make their buying decisions.
On the flip side there are also many owners who have had no problems with their cars and have had exemplary service from their dealers. In an imperfect world, there is no such thing as a perfect car. If you participated in a Lexus forum, you will find owners with experiences and opinions similar to yours.
My family has had great ownership experiences with 7 Audis over the years.
Give Audi another chance!
Dave
'97 1.8TQMS "wett"

99 A4 2.8QTip with:
1: Silky smooth idle
2: Excellent Dealer Prep
3: Excellent Service by a DIFFERENT dealer, than originally purchased from, WITH LOAN CAR.
4: ANOTHER dealer just refilled my Windshield Washer solvent with bottles (notice the plural) of the Yellow Hi Perf Windshield Washer Solution GRATIS and just for stopping by and saying, "um, excuse me, but I am out of Washer fluid on my A4, is that covered?" His response, "Where are you parked?"
4.5(ode to MSFT): No squeek to the brakes, at all...
5: Love this car, handles the road like butter...Only getting better with time and miles, more responsive.
Anyway, sorry for your loss...
Kirk
Although I don't have much squeaking with a '98 A4 2.8 Q-Tip, my '89, 90Q brakes squeak, ever since changing pads. Doesn't bother me! Sometimes you can stomp on the brakes a little and burn off the glazing on the pads, and that may relieve some squeaking if it really bothers you that much. Also, what do you mean by rough idle? I find that there is only a slight vibration at idle, but only enough so that I know the car is running (a good thing, so I don't try and start it again!). If the idle fluctuates up and down (tach needle jumping all over the place) it may be the idle stabilizer valve, and this is something even the biggest moron at a dealership should be able to take care of. As far as the loaner car goes, this is up to each dealer, but all Audi dealerships I know of supply some sort of loaner. My local dealer is awesome (Barrier Motors, Bellevue, WA), and they take very good care of me, even though the car wasn't purchased there! :-)
Charles
They know they are the only game in town, so... they have an attitude to go with it. . If you want sales person to _approach you_ at all (usually it's the other way around at Holtz)... put on that 3 piece suit and bring along that briefcase... add a shiney new gold watch , and they may think you are a serious buyer.
Frank, I will email you...
