Hi,<p>I'm due for my first oil change very soon, and i'd like to switch to synthetics - likely Mobil 1. What weight is best considering i live here in sunny California? 15w30 or 15w50?<p>Any suggestions would be appreciated!<p>-steve =)<br>98.5 1.8tqm

My service advisor did not offer an opinion one way or the other re: synthetics (he knows it's one of those religious issues), but commented that "15W50 is not thick enough" and suggested that I use 20W50 the next time. However:<p>1) Mobil 1 does not have a 20W50 version, and <p>2) after reading quite a bit at www.api.org, it appears to me that 15W50 does everything that a 20W50 oil should do and more. <p>So, I plan to stick with Mobil 1 15W50 like many other happy 1.8T owners in this forum.
