hi everyone,
i went to start up my car this morning, and something very strange and very frightening happened. firrst of, it's been quite cold here the past couple of days, today it was in the 20's F. that may have something to do w/ what happened.
i have a 96 A4Q. i start the car up, put it in reverse ( i have a stick), and put my foot on the gas to back up. but the gas pedal was flush against the floor board, as if it was frozen in the "flooring it" position. i was pretty confused at this point, so i shut down the car and look at the pedal. it was flat against the floor, and when i try to bring it back up, by using the top of my foot to lift the pedal from underneath, it would just fall right back down. then i start the car up again, only this time, the car revs all the way to redline! again i try to raise the pedal to no avail. it was totally limp. i was now totally in panic mode, and made a few calls. first i called the dealer, who told me to have it towed to them and they''ll look at it immediately. after my second phone call, i start it up again, and everything is fine...pressure came back to the pedal, car was idling fine.
anyone have any ideas??? is the accel pedal controlled by hydraulics and oil, fluid, etc? i'm thinking the cold weather may have had something to do w/ it, but i've never had anything like this happen before, in any other car. do you think this is an emergency, or can it wait til my next scheduled maintenance? obviously, if it happens again, it's going straight to the dealer.
anyway, sorry this was so long...any info would be appreciated.
thanks,
chris
