I just picked up my A4 two weeks ago and have put on about 1000 miles of mostly highway driving. I keep noticing (feeling) a low level, and somewhat bothering, vibration when doing between 60 and 75 mph. Is this normal? Anyone else experience the same thing? Any ideas? I haven't yet taken it to the dealer.

My 99.5 1.8TQMS had a number of both high and low level vibration phenomena during the first 1500 miles or so. All of them seemed to disappear after breakin. Yours may be different, of course, but I wouldn't be alarmed yet.

I once had a slow leak and used fix-a-flat type aerosal gunk crap you spray inside your tire. It left a lot of liquid inside the tire and when I reached highway speeds the car had some very noticeable vibration at the exact speeds you mentioned. I went through suspension tests, checking tire balancing, and the dealer told me one of my tires was out of round. I brought the car to Discount Tire to buy a new tire and they asked if I used any flat fixing spray. I told them I had and they removed the tire from the rim to discover all the liquid washing around in there. $10 later to repair the puncture and the mystery was solved! I hope it is something as simple for you.
Kev
98 2.8 QMS

I haven't looked at the rpms although the vibration does feel more like it eminates from the steering and tires than from engine noise. It is hard to tell for sure though. Also, I do not recall experiencing the vibration at slower speeds at what I suspect are similar rpms.

the tires were in pretty good shape visually, but I decided to go back to the eagle gt +4's that shipped with the car.
Took it to a quality shop, alligned, balanced, and TRUED (they shave off parts of the tire that are out of round) the egle gt +4's didn;t need truing. But I haven't needed an allignment or rotation yet. -knock on wood-
slack
99.5 2.8M

until I got new tires.

I have a 1.8tqm 1998; it has allways done what you described at high speeds. it is only intermittent, cannot be felt through the steering wheel(must be coming from the rear suspension) is not corrected by wheel/tire rotation and only partially improved by 4-wheel balancing. I suspect that i have a control arm/bushing problem, but have been unable to get them to take apart the rear suspension to thoroughly inspect it. let me nkow how yours turns out.
