Hello all. Just got a new '99 Santorin Blue 1.8 quattro!! I've got a couple of newbie questions (I checked the archives and couldn't find any definitive answers).
1) On cold days (that's all I've had) after the car warms up and the fan for the heater starts cranking, a whiny, warbly noise comes from the center vents, above the radio. It goes away after ~5 minutes or if I turn down the fan or close those vents. Normal sound??
2) If you order the aftermarket CD changer and adapter from Crutchfield or Autotoys does it come with the plastic box, brackets, screws, etc? Or do you just get the player and adapter?
3) Is there really no light under the hood?
Thanks!!!

The Panasonic CD changers from Crutchfield, Autotoys, and others come with "universal" mounting hardware, not the OEM Audi setup (which costs something like $60 from Clair).
The good news is that the Panasonic changers are easy to mount using the supplied hardware. In fact, I prefer the location I ended up using, the underside of the package shelf, on the roof of the trunk.
1. Never heard noise from vents...at least never noticed it.
2. How much are they charging for the CD changer at Crutchfield and that other place? You know you must get a Panasonic. Don't know the model number but you can get it for about $275-$300 at Clair's. Check the PRODUCT GUIDE page for the link to their web site. They give web discounts for certain products. I believe that price includes shipping and the adaptor required...
3. There's no light under the hood of my 98 A4. Not sure about 99s. (Most unlikely)
Congrats on your new found pride and joy! :-)
