My wife went out to start our 3 month old 2.8Q in the afernoon and it would not start. She calls the dealer and then road side assistance to come out and look at car. Well to make a long story short we had washed the car the night before. We moved it from the garage to the drive and then back into the garage again. According to the dealers service department our car was flooded because it was not run long enough after starting. They have been seeing this problem happen when people pull the car out to wash and then put it right back into the garage. Audi is working on a solution to the problem. Anyone out there have this happen???
yes, it has been posted here on this board before, about how people move their cars in and out of garages to wash it, and have problems starting again. Next time, just let the car idle for a couple of minutes, or drive it around the block a few times before shut down.
HTH,
Mark

I had this happen several times with my Infiniti G20.
The Infiniti dealer said this is common to many fuel injected cars. You should always run the car for at least 1 minute before shutting it off.
The solution to get started again is to keep your foot on the accelerator and not let up. It may take longer then 30 seconds to clear out the injectors - and there will be tons of smoke and it will smell bad and idle rough for a couple more minutes.
Mitch 99.5 1.8tqms

That happened to me once, same situation, washed the car, put it in the carage, thext day it didn't want to start. I then depressed the gas pedal part way while cranking it. It started, ran rough for about 30 seconds and was then OK. When I went in for my scheduled service there were no error codes listed.
Tom
99 2.8

When I pull my car out of the garage to wash it, I always drive around the block. Same thing before putting it away.

I test drove a 99.5 2.8 qms yesterday and the car wouldn't start at first. The dealer guy told me to
give it gas (something I thought was archaic now) and sure enough it sputtered for a second or
two then sure enough it started up, ran rough for just a few seconds and then ran smooth as silk
for the rest of the drive. Possible someone had just moved the car around the lot earlier and didn't
let it run long enough. Oh well, since I'm ordering a 1.8T it wont be much of a concern, You need
to idle for a while anyway to warmup/cool down the turbo anyway.

common problem I've seen with VW/Audi's and Bimmers (not Mercedez) in the repair shop. Mine has done it too several times. My Japanese cars don't. Usually when I start it and does not catch, and try to start it again, it floods so I gotta floor the gas pedal to add more air. My Audi doesn't have the one click and start as my Mitsubishi and Mazda but it don't bother me -as I believe the fuel management system is far more superior. BTW, my G/F's Acura had the same starting problem. Happens pretty common so I taught her how to start it. Engine runs fine, no traces of higher emissions observed

BMWs have this problem too. Logic used to dictate that somehow water was getting into the ECU, but now they've decided that every time you start the car you must run it (preferably drive it) long enough to warm up. Just around a block or two should suffice, otherwise this will happen after each short start.
