I've had my A4 Avant for a month and I'm still not sure about one aspect of the climate control. If it is cool out (say 50 degrees), and I have the climate control on auto (with the snow-flake on) set to about 70 degrees, is the AC compressor actually engaged (and robbing power and gas mileage)? That is, if the snowflake is on, is the AC working, even if it is not needed?
Thanks for any help.
Mark

If the flake is there, the compressor is on. Why run the compressor if ambient temp is low? Because it also dehumidifies the air, preventing fogging the windows. This is not always necessary, hence it is defeatable. Keep it on auto and just kill the compressor (switch off the snow flake), if windows start to fog a bit switch it back on.
Regards,
Rodney
'99 A4 1.8tqms
