I was reading the fine print on the back of my A4 lease this morning (don't ask) and I noticed a very interesting clause which states that you are not allowed to take the car outside the U.S. with the lessor's prior written consent - in my case, Chase Manhattan.
For those of you who live near our northern or southern borders, if anything ever happens to the car whilst you are outside our fair land you could be in a lot of trouble even if you buy the proper insurance. You might want to see if your lease has similar language.
I also noticed my lease has an amusing typo - I can't return the car just because I decide "the vehicle cost to much."

This statement is true in most cases.
It is to prevent you taking it out of the country and never coming back with it.
Since the car isnt in your name in order to take it over, a lot of times you have to show the letter.
Makes sense. Feel bad for those who drive over the border a lot.
