Hi! I know this topic has been talked about. I
look at the past forums for ammunitions to go back
to my dealer to fix the mirrors. I cannot find the
correct answers. The dealer said the mirrors work
within specs. I told them it was not as hot as
before and it's always on. The dealer said no, it
is not always on. I have an early 98 A4! Could someone provide me with the ammunitions ? Thanks !
Your '98 heated mirrors are wired to be on all the time. The heating element will deteriorate over time and eventually cease to function. This can be checked by measuring the resistance value of a new mirror versus one that's been in use for some time. If the dealer says it's within spec now, just wait a while. It will be out of spec eventually! Not a huge problem under warranty, but once out of warranty gets expensive.
I've rewired the mirrors in my '99 2.8 Avant QMS to come on with the rear defroster switch. I used the teriffic instructions developed by Bob Petruska and Stan Jirman who post on this site. Don't expect that the dealer will do this mod for you. Get out that soldering iron! Good Luck!
Mike

I loose my outside temp display when I pull fuse #9. I would rather not be without the temp dispay. I have a 98 1.8TqM no trip computer.
David

Then you lose your gear selector display as well, which is a very, very bad thing.
James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver
