Rick 06-16-1999, 04:27 AM PAS 06-16-1999, 05:32 AM I just installed the ECU chip combo in my car and I can only speak from this experience. I have not driven any other chips. What I can tell you is that the ECU that I recieved was an M and my car originally had a P. The car runs and idles no different. There is no pinging or knocking. Those people who say that there are differences in programming between the two - there probably is but in real world everyday driving I can't tell a difference. What I can tell you is that there is more torque - even at part throttle across the entire powerband (except below 2K). The car just feels more lively. I really can't hear the turbo spool up until I press the throttle almost to the floor. Passing at cruising speeds is now effortless and quick. I hope this helps. I'm sure the other APR chippers would describe the same thing.
Perry 1.8TM Passat (no flames) rmz 06-16-1999, 07:26 AM Nothing but JOY, only problem now is I can't get my foot off the gas.. I am wondering if ANY of the Houston Audi people want to make a trip to Houston Raceway Park in BayTown? We can have some Audi/Chip testing.. hehehe Any takers? I've ran a few of my past car's there and it is pretty damn fun..
Any takers? kj 06-16-1999, 08:02 AM J 06-16-1999, 08:40 AM
From 0-60, both the APR and Garrett Stg 2 ran around 6.9 seconds. From 50-70, the Garrett chip did better by 2 seconds. This was done on a stock 99 1.8QTM with a K&N filter. skeptic 06-16-1999, 10:35 AM , JonathanD 06-16-1999, 11:25 AM PAS 06-16-1999, 11:27 AM According to the chip survey that was recently done, their has been a high insidence of problems with the Garrett chip. It is also a 1.1 bar chip (16lbs) - it will fry your turbo quicker.
Todd 06-16-1999, 12:00 PM By who's math?? If you read the survey again, you'll see that the percentage of Garrett's chips with problems was one of the lowest of the bunch. In fact, if you eliminate the vendors who sold 2 or less chips to survey participants, Garrett ranks 2nd behind Neuspeed in trouble free chips: NS 67%, Garrett 66%, Wett 64%, MTM 60%, TAP 40%. Sure looks like the survey says something completely different than what you state.
As far as Stage II frying turbos, I challenge you to find even one instance of this happening.
However, we have discontinued Stage II as of a couple weeks ago for pinging reasons. Too many Stage II owners were beginning to ping with the warmer weather/higher humidity onset (Stage II was developed over the winter on the dyno). Rather than getting the rep of having a pinging chip, even though Stage I is fully ping free, we decided to pull it from our product offering.
These are facts. Not rumors.
Todd
Air & Water
www.awe-tuning.com PAS 06-16-1999, 12:57 PM I guess I pulled it out of context. It is hard to compare chips when you have an uneven distribution - its like comparing apples to oranges - plus the more you sell the higher the probability that problems can occur (it might not even be related to the chip in many instances). I'm sure that Garrett has a great product (he's been in the industry long enough) and has many happy customers. I didn't mean to stir up controversy. (This whole chip debate thing is getting out of hand - too many tuners.)
Leszek 06-16-1999, 04:09 PM You can read all about it on the Seattle A4 club board.

Seattle A4 club

|
