I'm looking for a 99.5 1.8T Quattro man w/ sports, nothing else. I also have a specific color in mind (volcano/brilliant black on black). Most people seem to be ordering their cars. Since my current car is on its last legs, I'd like to get something in the next month or two off the lot. Is this feasible, and what price should I be looking for off the lot?
Also, any ideas on good So Cal (near L.A.) dealers?
TIA.

You may find that "on the lot" cars have more options than you want. Every lot car I saw had a Sunroof. I live in New England so almost every car also had an All Weather package. I really didn't want the All Weather package - but when they had the colors and all other options I wanted I bought it. I figure a lot of the All Weather package cost will be made back when I resell the car.
Good luck and have fun.
Mitch 99.5 1.8tqms

It's actually very hard to find an A4 with a minimum of options on it like the one you're looking for. Most people who are so specific end up having to order the car and the dealer will probably demand a nonrefundable deposit so they won't be stuck with a car deviod of options should you back out.
If you get lucky and find one available on the lot, go for 4% over invoice max. But the reality will probably be that you will have to order the car (in which case 5% over invoice is a fair deal) or be more flexible in how the car is equipped.
Good Luck - Rog
'99 Silver 2.8QMS

The dealer couldn't find the car I wanted in the entire US without the sunroof. I finally went with a car with the sunroof because I didn't want to wait 5 months to save $1200. You will probably have to be flexible with options or order what you want, and as I understand it from the posts I have read here it is past the 99.5 ordering deadline, but I could be off on that. So if you go for MY2000 you may pay more anyway.
Just a thought.
parkerpt
99.5 1.8T qms
I was in the same boat as well, and all the dealers kept telling me that the car I wanted (99TQMS, nothing else) wasnearly impossible to find. I called every major Audi dealer in the US trying to track one down and kept getting the same answer -- no way. Every friggin car has the roof option over here.
So I caved in and went with an ownerless car found on the dock in Germany that has roof option. Taking delivery in a week or so, not X months from now. IMHO, definitely worth the extra $.
CB

I was set against the sunroof because I thought I couldn't stand to spend the cash on something I wouldn't use. My girlfriend has a sunroof in her 626 and I have never seen it open so I couldn't figure what the point was of having an expensive extra window. Much to my surprise I got a big ole frontal lobe roasting sunburn on my forehead the first weekend I had the car because I enjoyed it so much. Moral of my story: It beats waiting 5 months for the same car without a hole in the roof.
parkerpt
99.5 1.8T qms/bose/obvious sunroof
