I had my Wrangler in 4 wheel drive, and everyone was doing about 5mph. A minivan crashed into a car right in front of me. I love having 4 wheel drive, but I can't wait for All wheel drive on the A4. Whenever I make a turn in the Wrangler the wheels hop because they don't travel at the same speed. That is quite annoying. I want smooth driving. Later all.

Came out of the movie "A Simple Plan" at about 12:30AM Saturday Night to find the roads & my car ice covered. It was a slow drive home, but the traffic was light. Had to take one opportunity to speed up a hill near my home and the wheels did indeed slip a lot, but at moderate power the Quattro performed quite well as I zipped past an Escort. Was hoping for more snow, though. (who wasn't?)
Steve Olsen
'97 1.8TQMS Wett 1.0/RamAia
All the pile-ups apparently occurred between 1am and 2am. Hung out till about 2 in NYC and headed back home to NJ - still have Bridgestone S-02 PPs on (call me lazy and a bit crazy) and didn't want to get in any more trouble than I thought I already was in. Turned out I'm a lucky fella considering all the pile-ups occurred on highways that I travel on. Bitched a hell of alot though when the highways I usually travel on were closed. Was actually gonna cut through the cones and talk to a cop to just let my through - a little bit of the A4 ego showin' through. Good thing though cause I found out they were closed cause that's where the pile-ups were - don't need more stinkin' traffic in this area!
It was fun though passing a Bimmer (he was doing about 5mph) on the FDR. You know the guy's crappin' in his pants when he has to go THAT slow. Got home safe and sound. Saw a ton of accidents. My Europa blue was white the next day from all the salt on the road. Washed it off inside the garage now that I found a way to get the faucet in my garage to work. Taking advantage of the fact that I can now wash my car in the indoors, I decided to wash my old stock 5 spokes so I can put all-seasons on it. While doing so, found something interesting. Can anyone tell me where their 5 spokes are made? Gotta get off a lot of brake dust to find that out.
I did, going home from my friends house everyone had their hazzards lights on and driving 5mph.. Saw three accidents on the L.I.E and also the 40-50 car pileup on the Grand Central Pkwy.. What a scary sight.. I had no problem with the Quattro as traction wasn't a problem, just a little slipping when trying to stop though..
Dmak 1.8TQMS

Driving at about 1:00 Am saturday night, I put the anti-locks to the test for the first time. The system made a strange grinding noise and the pedal felt like it was grinding rather then pulsating, like in every other ABS equipped car I have driven. Is this normal for an A4? Definitely did not seem right to me.
Shawn
98 A4 1.8TQMS
The brakes pulsate so fast that it's more like a vibration, and it feels like the brakes are grinding. Mine do the same.
RobS
98 Laser 1.8T QMS Neuspeed and the little red dome light...oh and a cracked mud guard

Thank God for Quattro and the Michelin Arctic Alpins! My A4 never put a wheel wrong. The traction was so good I had a difficult time judging what a prudent speed was. I saw about 50-60 cars stuck at the side of the road during the trip. Somewhere in Ohio a truck was about 1/4 mile ahead of me and hit black ice on a bridge. It was rear-wheel drive only, so the back-end stepped out and pointed the truck sideways. Then the ice ended and the tires grabbed and sent the truck right into the concrete wall of the bridge. The right front was completely smashed in.
Jim Meyer
'98 2.8QMS
