View Full Version : HOW IS YOUR REMUS EXHAUST? Ryan G 01-04-1999, 05:19 AM I was going to order one this week. Many people say that the resonator is the most restrictive part of the exhaust, so putting in a high flowing one would certainly help.
The resonator I got installed is a Maremont brand "glass pack". They come in all sizes, I opted for the 12" long one. The part itself cost me $120. I had Meineke do all the work. I'd say that the quality of work was a 9 on a 1 to 10 scale.
The sound is great, and the power increase is noticeable. The power band (I have a Wett 1.0 bar chip) is smoothed out a little, and a little stronger throughout, but mostly at the top end. I don't think it is any louder than the one on Steve S's 12V V6.
Email me if you have anymore questions.
Corey S
Wett 97 1.8tqm

Corey's A4 Page

Chris Hlubb 01-04-1999, 02:11 PM Corey S 01-04-1999, 04:03 PM d DarrelM 01-04-1999, 04:32 PM I took Corey's advice and had a resonator from Meineke installed on my 97 1.8Q. I have the MTM chip and stock muffler. What I seem to notice most is much better pull from 5th gear, it could all be in my head or due to the cold, but it definitely isn't any slower. There is a minor downside, accelerating up grades in 5th sometimes causes a mild droan noise I didn't have before, noise at slower RPMS sounds a little better IMO. Mine cost 32.95 plus 50.00 for install. Part# BL3515 (Mar) The added plus is that I've postponed the desire to invest $1800 on MTM's catback for only 10-20hp. Ron A. 01-05-1999, 03:23 PM After meeting with Corey S and other NorCal A4 folks, I also decided to try the resonator mod since it was cheap. The installation was also done at the identical Meineke muffler shop.
So far, I've been satisfied with the better throttle response and off-idle spool up time. I have the Wett 1.0bar ECU (earlier version)and the power curve appears smoother. With this mod, I also delayed the purchase of a complete catback exhaust + downpipe. In regards to noise, there is more droning at 70mph in 5th gear, but the car is still relatively quiet.
HTH,
-- Ron A.
98.5 Wett 1.8TQM |
