I just got back from Europe (England and France) and I was amazed at how popular the A4 is, especially in England where it is downright common. I also spotted several TTs. It's good to know the Europeans love this great European car as much as us Americans.

"loving" would be the wrong expression I guess. Here in the US, the A4 is a "premium / luxury car". Back home in Europe, the A4 is -- as you said -- common. It's 'just another car'. Here you buy it either because you love it or because you don't wanna be yet another BMW owner. In Europe, you buy it because it may actually be cheaper or more reliable than the competition, as hard as it is to believe. And it has the TDI engine, which the competition doesn't.
- Stan
the Swiss guy in US exile
In Europe, 2.8 are rare due to higher fuel costs. There are more TDI's and 1.8(non-turbos). Whereas we get them pretty much loaded up with goodies, in Europe you can get them pretty much stripped.
This german guy who I work with always asks me, "so, how do you like your taxi?"
GRRR!

The 2.8 and 2.6 is rare because of gas AND taxes. Most of the European countries have very high taxes on cars with big engines.
Therefore, Audi, BMW and Mercedes have smaller engines (1.8T) which produce (or can easily produce) more power than bigger V6s... Read June issue of European Car and MTM's tuning of A4 1.8T (286, 300, 350 and 400 hp)!!!!!!
Kjell
2.8 qAt

...like my car which is a 1.8T but has factory wood trim and the 5 spoke wheels simply because that is what I wanted. I could've gotten the leather as well but decided against it at the last minute.
--Ian.

...I was in Vienna, Prague, and Bratislava earlier this year and found that the A3 was the most common car I saw. I also noticed that they didn't sell the Bora (Jetta) in Czech or Slovakia. Instead they sold a 4 door Polo. Then they don't sell the A3 here (I understand why, I guess). So strange how VW/Audi keeps cars out of some markets when they rule other markets. And yes, I did see A4s everywhere. I saw 11(!) A8s in Bratislava in less than 4 days there. I also saw an S8 and two TTs in less than 4 days in Prague. I have to say that I didn't mind not seeing any(almost none) Detroit representatives while I was there.
Jonathan.
