My M3 does it...kind of a geeky-gadgety engineering thing (meaning I think its cool). Haven't seen a TT yet, but BMW's drops a bit when you open it, and closes just after you completely shut the door. Supposedly the gap allows any extra air pressure created on slamming the door shut to escape through this gap in the window - makes the door easier to shut. *shrug*
Brad

If the driver's side door on my car is open and I push the key fob lock button, all the doors will lock, save the driver's side, which is what I would expect. However, when I close the door, the alarm light starts blinking rapidly, like it does when the alarm is trying to set itself, but the driver's door won't lock itself. Given a few seconds, the light will blink slowly and if I open the door, the alarm will go off.
The question...does everyone's car behave like this, or is mine being stupid? Seems to me that once I close the door, the car should be smart enough to lock the driver side door automagically. If it's not going to do that, then it shouldn't arm the alarm. What does your car do?
Thanks!
Warren

Prevents lock-outs while still protecting car with alarm.

driver's side is only door which delays if closed after pushing "lock" button. Not stupid, it just waits thirty seconds, I believe, before locking the driver's door.
Conker 98 1.8TS-tip TAP .8

This thread prompted me to test it out tonight. With the driver's door open, pressed the lock button on the remore,, then closed the door. All other doors and trunk are locked, alarm starts blinking, waited two minutes, driver's door still unlocked, but opened the door and all hell broke loose. Thus, if someone tried to get in this way he/she will set the alarm off. Like I said, just different.
I find the inability to lock the driver's door without the key or the remote to be a big advantage because I have locked my keys inside everyone of my previous cars. With my Audi, I have yet to figure out a way to do it without a second key.
By the way, I quite often activate the remote lock with the trunk open. When I shut the trunk, all doors lock, it beeps and the alarm is activated.
Clair C., 98.5 2.8 FWD M
